Hunter Biden's LAPTOP Memecoin Plunges After Launch

Hunter Biden launched the LAPTOP memecoin on Base on September 9, turning the story of his laptop into a crypto project. Quotes on some venues lost more than 98% from a brief early peak almost immediately. The official site confirms the contract and a one-billion-token supply, while analysts point to highly concentrated ownership. The evidence makes the launch a useful case study in early liquidity and allocation risk, but it does not establish an intentional scheme to extract funds.

Hunter Biden's LAPTOP Memecoin Plunges After Launch

What Hunter Biden and the LAPTOP project confirmed

On September 7, Hunter Biden's verified account posted the LAPTOP ticker and a September 9 date. On launch day, he wrote on Substack that the memecoin was intended to recast the laptop story around recovery and control of his own public narrative. The post also promised free tokens to subscribers who had joined by September 6.

The project's official site identifies Base as the network and 0xB095274743941e953c746F9C228DA9c18Bb6ec29 as the contract. That matters more than the name or ticker because unrelated tokens using the same label appeared before launch. BaseScan shows verified LaptopOFT source code and a fixed initial mint of one billion LAPTOP on Base.

Why LAPTOP's launch price collapsed so quickly

The Washington Post reported that one observed launch quote climbed to about $190 and then fell below $2 within minutes. Citing Bubblemaps, it said more than 15,000 wallets lost money and estimated that roughly 80% of participating traders were down. When checked on September 10, the main pools still showed sharp price moves and substantial differences between venues.

A high opening print is not a durable valuation for the full supply. In a new pool, shallow liquidity, different trading-pair depths and the first large trades can produce an extreme quote at which a meaningful position cannot be sold. The percentage decline therefore describes the path of a particular market price, but it does not by itself reveal how much real capital entered or left the token.

How the one billion LAPTOP tokens are allocated

The project site assigns 20% of supply to a day-one and future airdrops, 10% to liquidity and 5% to the foundation treasury. Another 30% is allocated to founders, 30% is tied to the outcomes of real-world events, and 5% is designated for charity. The site says 35% was unlocked at the token-generation event and that the supply becomes fully unlocked over 36 months.

The founders' allocation and wallets funded before public trading deserve the closest scrutiny. Bubblemaps described the supply as extremely concentrated and vulnerable to a dump. A large allocation alone does not prove abuse; that conclusion would require recipient addresses, enforceable lock schedules and confirmed transfers. Concentration does mean, however, that decisions by a small group of holders can move the market significantly.

Prediction-based burns do not support today's price

The project ties 30% of supply to thirty political, cultural and cryptocurrency outcomes. Under the published rules, each allocation is supposed to be burned if its prediction comes true or donated to charity if the opposite occurs. Conditions include Bitcoin reaching a new all-time high and LAPTOP's fully diluted valuation exceeding that of the TRUMP memecoin.

A future burn reduces supply only after a condition is resolved and the transaction is executed onchain. It does not guarantee present demand, liquidity or a price floor. Until custody addresses and completed transactions can be checked, these commitments should be treated as project rules rather than economic outcomes that have already occurred.

Why a ticker cannot identify the genuine LAPTOP token

A token name is not unique, and anyone can create an asset called LAPTOP on a compatible network. An imitation can reuse a photo, a similar domain or a news link without any relationship to Hunter Biden. The only precise identifier for the published project is the complete Base contract address, cross-checked through more than one official channel.

Even a matching contract does not remove market risk. Traders still need to verify the pool address, available liquidity, whether the token can be sold, the largest holders, owner privileges and unlock dates. A buy button on an official website may confirm a route, but it does not make the price fair or guarantee that funds can be recovered.

What the LAPTOP launch teaches market participants

LAPTOP combines a famous name, a political narrative and an exceptionally thin opening market. That combination can create a burst of attention that appears to produce a multibillion-dollar valuation even though a large share of the supply could never be sold at the peak quote. For a memecoin, publicity substitutes for a business history, but it cannot substitute for market depth.

The practical verification order is straightforward: confirm the chain and full contract, inspect real pools and liquidity, then examine allocation and large-wallet activity. A screenshot of a peak price, a public figure's follower count and a promise of future burns are not independent grounds for valuing an asset. LAPTOP remains a highly volatile memecoin, not equity in a company or an instrument with guaranteed cash flow.
