What is being retired on 12 November
Blur's official announcement describes the retirement of the frontend, meaning the familiar website and user interface. That is not the same as deleting contracts or ending the protocol. Blur explicitly says that the marketplace protocol will remain operational onchain.
The distinction matters for NFT holders. Assets do not disappear merely because the site no longer loads. Accessing contracts without the standard interface, however, becomes more technical and increases phishing risk. Users should not rely on random mirror sites or sign prompts offering an urgent asset migration.
What happens to Blend
Blend, Blur's NFT-backed lending service, will stop matching new loans on 12 November 2026. The team says borrowers have until then to repay their loans or let them default. This addresses new loan matching and does not automatically describe the outcome of every existing position.
Blur says it will provide a frontend tool to help users withdraw assets from Blend after that date. The announcement does not include every technical detail, so users with open loans should monitor the official account and project domain only. If a loan's terms or status are unclear, resolve that before the deadline rather than waiting for a future tool.
Why frontend and protocol are not interchangeable
In decentralized systems, an interface, smart contracts, and token governance can continue separately. Removing a website takes away the ordinary route to the product but does not necessarily switch off Ethereum contracts. Blur emphasized precisely that distinction, so describing the event as a full Blur shutdown would be inaccurate.
Operational onchain code also does not equal convenient or safe access for an ordinary user. Direct contract interaction requires correct addresses, knowledge of functions, and careful wallet use. For an NFT serving as active collateral, a transaction mistake can be more costly than taking time to verify the position.
What to check before the deadline
NFT holders should check whether they have an open Blend position, the debt amount, default terms, and contract addresses only through official Blur channels. Save the relevant position information and make sure the wallet is under the user's control. Never enter a seed phrase into a site that appeared around the closure announcement.
This announcement is not a valuation of the BLUR token or a forecast for the NFT market. It concerns access to a specific product. The practical task for a Blend borrower is straightforward: do not leave an open position unreviewed before 12 November 2026.
