Bitcoin ETFs: seven inflow days and $3B in August

US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $314.37 million of net inflows on August 25, according to SoSoValue. The positive run now spans seven trading sessions, with August inflows above $3 billion. These are month-to-date figures, not a final August result or a forecast for Bitcoin's price.

What the seven-session run measures

Farside Investors reports a similar $314.3 million for August 25. Adding its published daily totals from August 17 through 25 gives approximately $2.57 billion; summing the month through that date gives about $3.05 billion. These are our calculations from the Farside rows checked on August 26.

Different providers' figures should not be spliced into a single series. Estimates can be revised and display precision varies, so comparisons need consistent dates and product coverage. A strong closing stretch does not mean every earlier session was positive. A definitive monthly ranking also requires the period to finish and a comparison with complete months calculated on the same basis.

IBIT dominated the latest daily total

SoSoValue puts the August 25 inflow into iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF, ticker IBIT, at $284.42 million. That represents roughly 90.5% of the group's daily net total, illustrating how strongly one product can influence the headline number.

An inflow into a BlackRock product is not automatically a purchase of Bitcoin with the asset manager's own corporate money. IBIT's annual report describes large share baskets created and redeemed through authorized participants, with cash or bitcoin used in the process. Individual investors do not transact directly with the trust in this way.

Nor does an aggregate flow reveal the ultimate buyers. Retail clients, investment funds and other market participants can hold shares. Establishing their relative contributions requires additional disclosures, rather than simply relabeling the daily total as institutional buying. Concentration in a product and concentration in a type of investor are separate questions.

Three numbers that should not be confused

SoSoValue lists $99.05 billion in total net assets and $54.36 billion in cumulative net inflows as of August 25. Those figures describe different things: a value at a point in time versus a flow accumulated over time.

A portfolio's value changes with its holdings' prices and expenses. Bitcoin already held by a fund can become more valuable without additional subscriptions. Investor.gov also distinguishes exchange trading between investors from the creation and redemption process involving the fund. Both are relevant to market activity, but they are not interchangeable measures.

Consider a single share changing hands several times. Each trade contributes to exchange volume, yet it does not follow that the fund receives fresh money for another asset purchase on every occasion. For the same reason, a large rise in asset value cannot be reported as an equally large net inflow. The underlying measure must be identified before the number can be interpreted.

What to watch after the rebound

The more informative questions are whether net flows persist and how widely they are distributed across products. A sequence of positive sessions records activity that has already happened. It does not disclose future redemption requests, selling outside ETFs or the full set of positions held by market participants.

Read the snapshot date first, then separate the daily result from the accumulated total and examine product concentration. Keep trading volume and asset value alongside those figures, not in their place. August's data show a recovery in flows into exchange-traded products over the stated interval. They do not turn that recovery into a promise that Bitcoin's price will continue to rise.
